A Family Law Firm of Distinction
Many lawyers practice family law, but they do not necessarily practice it exclusively. Even fewer are board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In fact, fewer than 10 percent of the attorneys in Texas are board certified in any area of law.
Is board certification important to your family law matter? It's possible. If you have a complex divorce or child custody case, the knowledge and experience of your attorney could make the difference. In Texas, board certification requires that an attorney have "substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law." In addition, it requires ongoing education and references from peers.
Gary L. Nickelson has been board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1984. He is also a past president of the elite American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an organization dedicated to providing excellence in the practice of family law. Since 2003, he has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer.
Chris Nickelson is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Appellate law is a specialized field requiring exceptional research, writing and analytical skills.
